The Centre for Tourism Initiatives of Marbella (CIT Marbella) organizes on the 26th March, Friday, at 14.00 hours, our monthly member’s lunch at CIO Mijas, Andalusian Centre of Education in Leisure Industry, located on Ctra. A7, Km. 201, La Cala, Mijas Costa, counting on the invited speaker of honour Mr. Javier Gómez Navarro, President of the Superior Council for Spanish Chamber’s of Commerce who will speak about “Tourism in Spain: Contextual Crisis and Structural Crisis”.
Javier Gómez Navarro is Industrial engineer, specialized in Chemistry. From February 2005 he is President of the Superior Council for Spanish Chamber’s of Commerce.
He was manager of the Publishing House Editorial Cuadernos for Diálogo, were he carried out the Project of the weekly magazine with the same name. He then worked for the Publishing House Editorial Tania, and continued as editor of the magazine Viajar, that he founded 1978. He was Managing Director of Fundación Ortega y Gasset. In the 80th, he promoted the la constitution of the International Tourism Fair, were he was Technical Secretary until 1983. In 1983 he is appointed President of Viajes Marsans, one of the first Travel Agencies in Spain. He also created the Club for Businessmen “Club de Empresarios”. From 1987-1993: he was State Secretary for Sports. During this period, the Sports Law was elaborated 1989, turning Football and basket clubs into limited corporations. He played an important roll in the organisation of the Olympic Games in Barcelona 92, as vice-president of the Committee. From 1993 to 1996 he was Minister of Commerce and Tourism. During those years, the Commerce Law 1996 was approved. From 1998 he presided the company MBD, dedicated to business consultancy and in 2005 he is appointed President of Aldeasa. He is currently Patron Saint of the Theatre Teatro Real.
